Brighton is an exceptional city for runners. The flat seafront promenade, traffic-free cycle and run paths, beautiful parks, and the dramatic South Downs just outside the city provide a wide variety of running environments to suit every ability and preference. Brighton’s running community is passionate, welcoming, and well organised, making it easy for visiting runners to join local groups and explore the city on foot.
Brighton Seafront Running Route
The seafront promenade is Brighton’s most popular running route and for good reason — it’s flat, scenic, traffic-free, and genuinely beautiful. You can run for miles in either direction with the sea on one side and Brighton’s distinctive architecture on the other. It’s particularly beautiful at sunrise and sunset.
Preston Park Running Routes
Preston Park is a large, well-maintained park in the north of Brighton with a popular running loop. Parkrun Brighton takes place here every Saturday morning, attracting hundreds of runners for a free, timed 5km run. It’s open to all abilities and free to participate — just register online in advance.
The Brighton Marathon
The Brighton Marathon takes place every April and is one of the most celebrated road races in the UK. The course takes runners through the city streets and along the spectacular seafront. Spectators line the route to cheer on the runners, creating an incredible atmosphere. Accommodation books up very early for marathon weekend.
